Post 503 Chaplain's Corner

Chaplain Ben Lee

We thank our past Chaplain Bill Alexander for his years of dedicated service to Post 503.

May 2007

At the present time of the year we are approaching that annual milestone of remembering and paying homage to those veterans of our armed services that have made that supreme sacrifice of giving their lives on the field of battle for this country, and what it stands for. The red stripes of our beloved flag boldly reflect this for the blood of honor that was shed by our forefathers, and all that wore the uniforms of our military services in all the wars, including the one at present.

Do Not, I beg of you, forget what these sacrifices have meant to those of you reading this message, and to this great nation, the United States of America. Yes, they paid the price for the white in our flag which reflects purity, justice and freedom, and the blue field, symbolizing the highest of field of honor, and valor; lest we not forget the stars which reflect the unity of all our nations’ states. God bless those who died for what the red, white, and blue stands for.

This will probably be the last letter from me because it is now time for me to retire, and relinquish this responsibility to one that will ably fill this position. If there are those of you that feel you would like to serve in this capacity please contact the commander.

Remember Memorial Day, 28 May 2007 For GOD, and Country Please keep the families in your prayers:

March 2007

Let each of us consider a word – one that is very familiar and very important to each of us. That word is “life”. Life is a beautiful word and describes something everyone wants, and in abundance. However, there is another part of this word as it follows us all through life. That very small word is “if”. It is in so many manifestations in our lives from birth to the demise of each of us. No one escapes it. “If” is in the middle of “life”. If I (we) had only made a certain decision another way, what would the results have been? In the “if” in life there is one avenue that will not lead us astray and that is to place our faith in God the Father and His Son. You will never be led in the wrong direction, or decision, in life. At this time of year we are experiencing the time of Lent leading up to Easter, one of the most beautiful times of the year. Please remember to practice forgiving and pray. Pray that this wonderful nation of ours may continue to know the benefits of our Heavenly Father’s embrace. Pray for our troops and their families and all those who have served honorably, and our leaders of this nation. Remember, “if” in “life” is our future. Which road will you choose?

Please remember the following families in your prayers: Deceased: John (Jack) Gaines, 10 years member, 02/09/07 Allen E. Storm, 16 years member, 02/21/07 Distressed: Richard Lanahan, wife Mary passed away 02/11/07 Sick: Tom Reynolds, Leroy P. Lawrence, Edward S. Wood

News Letter January 22, 2006

Much time has pasted since my last entry to the Chaplains Corner. My last article just missed the printed mail deadline (was posted online), however my thoughts and prayers were still with all the members of our Post, especially those of you that are, or were sick and distressed.

If there ever was a series of trials, and survival through faith and determination, 503 magnificently came through.  Through great leadership, and dedicated members, this Post became like the mythological Phoenix, in 2006 it arose from the ashes and lives. There is a parallel to this, and that is the times when each one of us are at our very lowest in our daily lives; remember to keep our faith in our Heavenly Father, and His Holy Son, and ourselves, that through belief and determination we will overcome what ever we face. 2006 was a challenge.

May this new year of 2007 be a year of much success and a bountiful blessing to all reading this newsletter. A belated Happy New Year.

Lest we not forget there were those of our comrades that were not with us at the end of 2006. God bless them and their surviving family members. They received their last orders and reported to that Great Hall of Honor of our Heavenly Father.

They were Harold C. Robinson(3/1/06), Vincent J. Shae (6/17/06), Larry Vestal (5/30/06), Walter E. Nugent (8/21/06, Francis J. Foley ((9/23/06), Ralph Cassese (7/19/06), James J.
